New bird, same mission
Weapons load crews at Holloman Air Force Base are hard at work becoming proficient in loading F-22s. "Our guys are still learning, still getting trained," Sgt. Stephen Polk, weapons load crew expediter, said Wednesday.

The Raptor can carry two AIM-9 missiles, or Sidewinders, and three AIM-120s, according to Polk. He explained the heat-seeking Sidewinders are for close range air-to-air combat while the AIM-120s are medium range air-to-air missiles.

Canadian Discovery Channel films at Holloman AFB
Canadians came to Holloman Air Force Base this week to film documentary segments about the F-22A Raptor and the QF-4 drone for Discovery Channel Canada's "Daily Planet" show.

Mark Stevenson, segment producer for the show, was on site with freelance camera man Mark Foerster Wednesday wrapping up the visit. Foerster was the primary camera operator while Stevenson served as secondary. The men had been filming since Monday.continue»

Thunderbirds 'Soar into Solstice' at Eielson
More than 6,000 people witnessed what the Air Force is all about during the 2008 Soaring into Solstice airshow June 24 at Eielson Air Force Base.

On display for visitors to tour and take pictures of were an F-22 Raptor, F-16 Fighting Falcon, A-10 Thunderbolt II, KC-135 Stratotanker and UH-60 Black Hawk helicopter.

192nd first Air Guard unit to fly F-22 for Operation Noble Eagle
The Virginia Air National Guard's 192nd Fighter Wing here is the first Air Guard unit to fly the F-22 Raptor in support of Operation Noble Eagle.

Operation Noble Eagle was established by President George W. Bush to protect the American homeland following the terrorist attacks in September 2001.

Lockheed Martin pushes for F-22 Raptor program
Lockheed Martin Aeronautics Co. came to town Monday on a mission to build support for its F-22 Raptor fighter jet built for the U.S. Air Force. A potential shutdown looms for the aircraft's production.

The ripple effect would hurt defense subcontractors nationwide, including GE Aviation System. which makes parts for the $137 million aircraft.
