| F-22 Raptor performs first supersonic GBU-39 SDB drop |

On July 11, the 411th Flight Test Squadron passed a milestone as an F-22 Raptor travelling at supersonic speed dropped a GBU-39 Small Diameter Bomb for the first time.
The first supersonic SDB drop was part of a safe separation test currently being performed to integrate the bomb with the F-22.

| Raptors set to deploy to Guam |

Six F-22 Raptors from the 90th Fighter Squadron at Elmendorf Air Force Base, Alaska, are set to deploy to Andersen AFB, Guam, July 18 to Aug. 2.
The F-22s, along with associated maintenance and support personnel, will deploy to Guam to participate in the Jungle Shield exercise and conduct Cope Thaw training.

McChord Air Force Base will open its gates to the public at 8 a.m. Saturday and Sunday for Air Expo 2008, featuring the Air Force Thunderbirds demonstration team.
The Expo and parking are free. In addition to the Thunderbirds, the event includes demonstrations, fly-bys and displays of various aircraft -- and a "jet car" designed by an Air Force Reservist.

Weapons load crews at Holloman Air Force Base are hard at work becoming proficient in loading F-22s. "Our guys are still learning, still getting trained," Sgt. Stephen Polk, weapons load crew expediter, said Wednesday.
The Raptor can carry two AIM-9 missiles, or Sidewinders, and three AIM-120s, according to Polk. He explained the heat-seeking Sidewinders are for close range air-to-air combat while the AIM-120s are medium range air-to-air missiles.

Canadians came to Holloman Air Force Base this week to film documentary segments about the F-22A Raptor and the QF-4 drone for Discovery Channel Canada's "Daily Planet" show.
Mark Stevenson, segment producer for the show, was on site with freelance camera man Mark Foerster Wednesday wrapping up the visit. Foerster was the primary camera operator while Stevenson served as secondary. The men had been filming since Monday.continue»
